Common Sense Goes a Long Way

When going out, remember these tips!

With everyone being busy. it’s quite easy to overlook the little things that help keep us safe. For example, how many times have you left your garage door unlocked since you know you’re only running to the local store for a few quick items? What about leaving a key outside just in case you ever get locked out?

Granted, a lot depends on the community that you live in. Fair or not, some places just have more chances of crime happening than others. So, with that in mind, here are some more tips to keep your valuable secured.

Let others know where you’re going, and how long you’ll be. Sure it sounds like your mother is talking to you, but letting a responsible person know when you’re supposed to return sets expectations for your arrival. Failure to do so, or not being able to reach you will trigger events that will lead to learning of your whereabouts.

Don’t reveal personal information where it can be recorded. Say you get your prescription drugs at the local pharmacy every Tuesday. Sure your Pharmacist knows you – but what about the people standing in line? You just don’t know who might be in a pinch and is looking for an easy mark.

Shred all your receipts. This can’t be mentioned enough. Soo many times, this is how the identity thief gets your information. Spend the $60 or so it takes for a home shredding device. It might seem like overkill until that thief charges your account for thousands of dollars you don’t have.

These are just some tips to get you started. You can’t prevent most attempts of id theft by just simply being aware of how you are disposing your financial information, and disclosing any information in public.
